SAN JOSE (CBS SF) — Four people were displaced by a two-alarm fire at a home in San Jose that is under control Tuesday night, a fire captain said.

The blaze, which left two firefighters injured, was reported at a home in the 1700 block of Commodore Drive at 3:08 p.m., San Jose fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez said.

The fire was under control by 7:11 p.m. and the two-story, roughly 3,000 square-foot house sustained serious fire, smoke and water damage, she said.

Responding crews found heavy smoke and fire in the attic.

At 3:40 p.m., firefighters had to change tactics for fear that the structure’s roof would collapse, which it eventually did.

Gutierrez said the fire was declared defensive and that all crews were battling it from outside the home.

One firefighter sustained an unspecified injury Tuesday afternoon and a second firefighter was taken to a hospital with injuries later in the day, Gutierrez said.

Information regarding their conditions and the extent of injuries was not immediately known.

Gutierrez said it appeared that no residents were in the home when firefighters responded.

The house’s four adult occupants were displaced by the blaze and the American Red Cross was called in to assist them, Gutierrez said.
